Chronic pain
We’re not usually alarmed by occasional aches and pains, and we have all experienced them at times. But did you know sudden pain is your nervous system’s most important reaction to alert you to possible injuries? When you’re injured, pain signals travel to your brain from the injured area through the spinal cord. As your injury heals, the severity of your pain reduces.

However, if you’re troubled by chronic pain, that’s different. An NIH study concluded that 25.3 million American adults suffer from chronic pain.

When you’re experiencing chronic pain, your brain continues to receive pain signals from your body even after the injury has healed. This may last for weeks or years. Your mobility, flexibility, and strength may be compromised due to the condition, making getting through everyday activities challenging. So, chronic pain is not a good condition to be in. If you are suffering from chronic pain, many caregivers recommend using moist heat at home for comforting relief. Our cherry pit pillows are easy to heat ––just put them in the microwave for a couple of minutes––they’re 100% hygienic and do a wonderful job at alleviating chronic pain. As with any mode of pain relief, check with your healthcare provider to make sure that moist heat is recommended for your particular situation.

When is pain categorized as chronic?

If you have been in pain for 12 weeks or more, you are in chronic pain. The pain may be dull or sharp, and the affected areas may feel an aching or burning sensation. It may be intermittent or steady.

Chronic pain can affect any part of your body, from the joints to the lower back. Here are a few common chronic pains:

  • Chronic joint pain- osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, tendinitis
  • Chronic headache- migraine, eye strain headache
  • Chronic back pain- spinal stenosis, spinal fractures, compression fractures
  • Chronic nerve pain- carpal tunnel syndrome, sciatica, diabetic neuropathy

What causes chronic pain?

Often, an initial injury, like a pulled muscle or spine alignment can lead to chronic pain. This type of pain develops when your nerves are pinched or damaged, making the pain last longer and more intense. Moist heat and proper medical care can go a long way to providing relief.  In some cases, chronic pain may develop without an injury. An underlying health condition may act as the contributing factor, such as:

  • Inflammatory bowel disease- pain and swelling in the intestines
  • Fibromyalgia- pain in the muscles and bones
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome- extreme, long-lasting weariness accompanied by pain
  • Endometriosis- painful uterine disorder
  • TMJ or temporomandibular joint dysfunction- pain in the jaw joint and muscles

How to treat chronic pain?

Chronic pain treatments aim to improve mobility and reduce pain, alleviating the associated discomfort. The frequency and severity of chronic pain usually differs from person to person. Your symptoms and underlying health conditions, if any, will determine your chronic pain treatment plan, as advised by your doctor.

Moist heat applications of Hot Cherry pillows can definitely help reduce pain by relaxing constricting muscles and increasing circulation. It’s an effective way to alleviate chronic pain at home, and highly recommended by chiropractors, physical therapists, and acupuncturists. Penetrating moist heat treats deep-seated sources of pain, thus enhancing healing.

Since moist heat also increases circulation to joints, lower back, and feet, it is highly effective against chronic pain caused by neuropathy and arthritis.
